CDRI’s Masterclass on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Standards and Certifications is an interactive platform for participants to learn critical aspects of policymaking and the system-of-systems approach while understanding international standards and certifications for resilient infrastructure. This masterclass will provide an overview of relevant standards for infrastructure resilience following a detailed insight on International Standard (ISO 14090:2019 Adaptation to Climate Change and the Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure standards (SuRe®)) and Certifications.

About the Masterclass:

The Masterclass comprises three sessions, which will be held prior to and during the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI 2022), to be held from 4-6 May 2022. The sessions will emphasize why, without focusing on performance-based standards, and on-ground infrastructure, targets of DRI cannot be achieved. Participants enrolling in the Masterclass will attend all three sessions and complete the assignment. A reading list will be made available to participants prior to each session. A joint certificate will be issued to all the participants who attend all the three sessions and successfully complete the assignment.

Selection Process:

In the registration form, applicants must submit an approximately 400-word statement of purpose (SoP) on how they will apply the knowledge in their stream of research and professional work. Participants will be selected based on the submitted SoP and their field of work or study and its relevance to infrastructure standards and certification systems. The masterclass will cater to practitioners, researchers, urban planners, engineers, architects, policy makers and activists.

Session details:

During these sessions, participants will explore the existing standards for embedding disaster and climate resilience in the existing and future infrastructure assets and systems. It will cover the value framework of using the International Standard ISO 14090:2019 Adaptation to Climate Change which specifies principles, requirements, and guidelines for adaptation to climate change as well as the SuRe® – the Standard for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure and related certification system. Participants will be able to identify project-level sustainability and resilience assessment measures to achieve the objectives of international frameworks such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR 2015-2030) among the others.
